In the shadowed depths of an ancient cave, a young female wolf emerged, her dark brown curls cascading to her shoulders, catching the faint glimmer of daylight that filtered through the cave’s entrance.

Her bright, expressive eyes, full of curiosity and life, scanned her surroundings as she stepped into the open air.

She wore a unique fur garment, its coloration a mix of white, gray, brown, and streaks of orange and black, reminiscent of a patchwork quilt from an unknown creature.

The fur covered her shoulders and chest in the form of a crop top, and her attire seemed to blend seamlessly with the rugged wilderness around her. It was clear that her outfit was well-suited to the environment and a reflection of the traditional style among the wolves in her tribe.

Not long after, a male wolf, roughly her age, followed her out of the cave.

They exchanged a few words, their conversation brief but significant. After their parting, he ventured off in a different direction, leaving her behind.

She watched him go with a warm smile, and once he was out of sight, she turned to head in the opposite direction he had taken.

As she walked, she passed by numerous caves, each one a dark hollow in the landscape, leading her deeper into the unknown. Her mind drifted back to the previous day, and the conversation that had set her on this path.

In her memory, a scene played out vividly: a striking male wolf with long, straight, silky black hair was speaking to her. His voice held a hint of urgency and vulnerability as he addressed her.

“Mu Xiang”
He began, his tone earnest…

“Can you accompany a young male to his new cave? Mikey and Draken are away for a while, and since I’ve been tasked with hunting tomorrow…”
He paused, clearing his throat before continuing.

“That young male is… special to me. So, can you look after him? Though Inui is here, Takemichi is still new to our ways. I don’t want him to feel lonely.”

The male wolf, who she recognized as Baji, had seemed troubled by the thought of Takemichi being alone, especially after the recent departure of two significant figures from their tribe.

Despite knowing that he would return soon after his hunt, Baji was deeply concerned for Takemichi’s well-being. It was clear that he had a soft spot for the newcomer, who had stirred something within him that was both unexpected and profound.

Xiang had agreed without hesitation. Accompanying someone was a small favor for her, and her curiosity about the young male who had captured the heart of their tribe leader was piqued.

Rumors had circulated about this male—whom Baji, known for his strict and solitary demeanor, was surprisingly attentive towards. The gossip suggested that Takemichi was not only exceptionally beautiful, surpassing even the female wolves in allure, but also that he was as white as snow—a stark contrast to the usual dark tones of their kind.

As she made her way to Takemichi’s cave, the anticipation of discovering whether these rumors were true built within her. She was eager to see for herself what had captured the attention of their formidable tribe leader. The prospect of meeting the mysterious young male who had managed to soften Baji’s hardened heart was intriguing.

Now, Mu Xiang was on a mission to uncover the truth behind the tales and to see firsthand if Takemichi lived up to the extraordinary reputation that had preceded him.

With each step towards Takemichi’s cave, her excitement grew, mingling with a sense of wonder and anticipation.

.â—  . â—  . â—  . â— . â—  . â—  . â—  . â— . â—  . â—  . â—  . â—

As Mu Xiang arrived at the cave that Baji had mentioned, her heart raced with anticipation. The entrance was unassuming, but she felt a surge of curiosity and excitement as she stepped inside. Her eyes quickly adjusted to the dim light, and there, seated at the far end of the cave, was Takemichi.

The moment she saw him, Mu Xiang was struck by his delicate and captivating appearance.

Takemichi’s beauty was almost ethereal; his petite frame and gentle features had a grace that was both enchanting and disarming. His skin was an astonishingly pure shade of white, reminiscent of freshly fallen snow. But unlike snow, his complexion had a warm, healthy glow, hinting at the subtle hues of sunlight—a vibrant and lively contrast to the typical pallor she was used to.

His face was framed by soft, light-colored hair that cascaded in gentle waves around his shoulders. His blue eyes—she reminded her of the ocean, large and expressive, shone with a depth and warmth that seemed almost otherworldly.

Takemichi’s features were so finely sculpted and symmetrical that it was easy to mistake him for a female at first glance—if not for his flat chest and the knowledge that he was male, he could have been taken for one of the most beautiful females in their tribe.

Mu Xiang’s breath caught in her throat as she took in the full impact of his appearance.

The rumors she had heard about Takemichi being exceptionally beautiful were not just exaggerated tales; they were, in fact, true.

Every detail about him seemed to confirm the stories she had been told.

As she stood there, her mouth slightly agape in astonishment, she couldn’t help but feel a flush of admiration.

A soft blush crept across her cheeks, though it was not the sort of infatuation that made her a mere admirer—rather, it was a genuine appreciation for the striking presence before her.

Slowly, Mu Xiang composed herself and took a step towards Takemichi, her friendly smile warming as she approached him. She was eager to make his acquaintance and forge a connection. The prospect of becoming friends with someone as extraordinary as Takemichi was thrilling.

She imagined how she would proudly share the story of her friendship with the most beautiful male she had ever seen, not only within her tribe but across the neighboring tribes as well.

*Step*

*Step*

*Step….*

With each step closer, her excitement grew.

She was determined to break through the barriers of unfamiliarity and extend her hand in friendship, hoping that their bond would be as radiant and remarkable as Takemichi himself.

As Mu Xiang reached Takemichi, she couldn’t contain her excitement. With a delighted laugh, she reached out and pinched his fair, delicate face, her eyes twinkling with amusement.

“You’re the partner of our Tribe leader, Baji, right? Oh my goodness, you are even cuter in person!”

Takemichi stared at her, momentarily speechless. He had always been aware of his shorter stature, but the reality of his height never fully hit him until now.

In this world, every orc he encountered was taller than him, even Mikey, who stood a whole centimeter taller. And now, this young female was a full head taller than him.

It was the first time he was seeing a female so close up. He had glimpsed others from a distance in the market when he first arrived at the tribe, but this was different. The encounter was unexpected; Mu Xiang’s beauty and height contrasted sharply with what he had imagined.

….. Wait a minute—Damnit!

Takemichi felt a wave of embarrassment wash over him as the memory of Hina-chan resurfaced—the very first female or woman he had met in this strange world.

His heart gave a familiar tug at the thought of her, and he mentally facepalmed for forgetting her, even for a moment.

How could he?

Hina-chan, with her radiant presence, had left such a deep impression. She wasn’t just beautiful; she was breathtaking in a way that felt otherworldly, like she belonged in the dreams of poets or on the cover of a magazine back on Earth.

He couldn’t help but marvel at how someone like Hina-chan, with her soft features and piercing eyes, would have easily been an idol or a top model in his world.

Her charm was natural, effortless—something that made her stand out, even among the women he’d known back on Earth.

As his thoughts drifted to Mu Xiang, standing nearby, Takemichi couldn’t deny she too was captivating. Her beauty had a wild, untamed quality, unlike Hina’s more polished appearance.

Mu Xiang was the kind of stunning that seemed to blend seamlessly with her surroundings—a natural part of this new, untamed world he found himself in. Her grace and strength were admirable, and her sharp, intelligent eyes were impossible to ignore.

Yet, despite all this, Takemichi found himself subconsciously comparing her to Hina.

It wasn’t that one was more beautiful than the other; rather, it was how different they were—each possessing a unique allure that made him wonder if beauty was simply a natural trait among the people of this world. He hadn’t seen a single person here who wouldn’t turn heads in his old life.

It was almost overwhelming to be surrounded by such perfection, as if every person he met was like a living work of art.

Takemichi found it fascinating, even humbling in a way. It wasn’t that he was jealous—far from it. But being in a world where beauty seemed to be the norm was a strange adjustment.

It made him feel a little out of place, like an ordinary person wandering through a land of myths. His gaze shifted back to Mu Xiang, and he realized that the allure of this world went beyond appearances.

There was something deeper—an energy, a rawness to the people here that seemed to mirror the wild nature around them. It was as though the harshness of life in this world had forged not just strong bodies, but beautiful souls.

As he stood there, lost in thought, Takemichi couldn’t help but smile to himself. This world was full of surprises, and it was teaching him things he never expected—about beauty, about strength, and about himself.

But then…

Suddenly, everything snapped back into focus for Takemichi.

Mu Xiang’s words finally registered in his mind, as though the shock had only just caught up with him. His brow furrowed in awkward confusion as he tried to process what had just happened.

“H-huh?”
He stammered, glancing around as if hoping for something to make the situation less bewildering.

“Umm…”
He hesitated, the words forming on his lips but failing to materialize.

That’s when he realized—he still didn’t know her name.

Before the silence could stretch any further, Mu Xiang seemed to sense his unease. With a smooth, effortless grace, she stepped in and introduced herself, her smile both warm and reassuring.

“I’m Mu Xiang”
She said, her voice carrying a gentle confidence.

“Baji asked me to accompany you, along with Inupi.” She glanced at him with an amused glint in her eyes.

“You’re Takemichi, right?”

“Y-yeah, I am”
Takemichi replied, feeling a small wave of relief wash over him.

Her friendliness eased some of his awkwardness, though he still couldn’t shake the sense that he had been caught off guard. As her name sank in, he couldn’t help but think.

‘So this is Mu Xiang…’

Mu Xiang tilted her head slightly, her curiosity clearly piqued by his earlier hesitation.

“You looked like you were about to ask something,”
She noted with a playful smile.

“What was it?”

Takemichi opened his mouth, then closed it, momentarily flustered. He had been so caught up in trying to figure out her name, he hadn’t actually formed a question.

“Uh… I guess I—”
He began, scratching the back of his head sheepishly.

“I guess I just got distracted for a moment.”

Mu Xiang chuckled softly, her laughter light and easy.

“Happens to the best of us”
She said, her tone good-natured.

“So what is it?”

Takemichi flinched slightly, gathering his courage before addressing the towering female. Despite her friendly demeanor, her height made her intimidating—she was a full three centimeters taller than him, and only a bit shorter than Seishu.

Clearing his throat quietly, Takemichi asked…

Xiang-chan, what did you mean when you said I’m Baji’s…uh, mate? And what’s this about rumors?”
The confusion in his voice was unmistakable.

He had no idea where these rumors had come from, and if Mu Xiang hadn’t mentioned it, he might have remained blissfully unaware of the claims about him. But the suggestion that he was Baji’s mate?

That was something he couldn’t just brush off.

Takemichi shuddered slightly at the thought. Baji was a friend to him—nothing more, or so he believed.

“Huh? Aren’t you our Tribe Leader’s mate?”
Mu Xiang looked equally confused.

“N-no, I’m not!”
Takemichi replied quickly, flustered.

“Baji-kun is just a friend of mine…*Paused*
He paused unexpectedly, a strange, uncomfortable sensation washing over him.

Why did saying that feel…wrong?

He couldn’t quite place it, but a momentary pang in his chest made him falter, even if just for a second.

“…and nothing more.”
He finished, though his words seemed to lack conviction.

His brow furrowed slightly, an expression of discomfort crossing his face.

Why did he feel hurt?

The emotion was unfamiliar, and it made no sense to him.

‘What’s going on with me?’
Takemichi thought.

He mulled over the idea briefly.

Did he have feelings for Baji?

No, that couldn’t be it.

Sure, they were friends now, but their first encounter was anything but romantic.

There hadn’t been any spark, nothing that would suggest love or attraction could develop between them.

‘You’re being ridiculous, Takemichi’
He scolded himself.

Baji probably didn’t have any feelings for him, so why should he feel this way?

He tried to shake off the strange feeling, deciding to move on to the second question he had for Mu Xiang.

Meanwhile, Mu Xiang stood there in shock, her mind reeling.

‘Did Takemichi just call me Xiang-chan?’
She was taken aback by the unexpected nickname.

Though she didn’t fully understand what the ‘-chan’ suffix meant, it sounded undeniably cute and endearing to her. It brought a broad smile to her face, lifting her mood instantly.

But then, Takemichi’s response to her earlier comment caught her completely off guard.

‘Wait—Takemichi isn’t our Tribe Leader’s mate?’
She frowned deeply, her confusion growing by the second.

It was clear as day to anyone with eyes that Baji liked Takemichi. How could Takemichi not know?

‘Could it be… Baji hasn’t confessed to him yet?’

In their world, a confession carried a double meaning.

The first was similar to what it meant on Earth—a declaration of love or feelings toward someone, and soon they’re will start dating.

But the second meaning held deeper significance in the beastman world: it was an invitation to court the person they liked and ask them to become their mate, no dating—straight to what they called mating or branding— and what we call in earth as marriage. A confession that didn’t necessarily need to involve love to develop—like dating; in some cases, it was a practical arrangement.

Sometimes, even females would confess to males they didn’t love, simply to establish a partnership.

Because they just need to live for a single mate—more likely a female and have a litter of cubs.

The realization hit Mu Xiang like a cold wave of water. She paled at the thought.

‘S-so Baji hasn’t confessed to him yet… and Takemichi doesn’t know about his feelings! Ryoko, just what is your Cub?’
Mu Xiang sighed quietly, feeling a sense of defeat wash over her.

This situation was more complicated than she had anticipated.

If what she suspected was true, then their tribe leader, Baji, was the most foolish and oblivious wolf she had ever met. The thought made her shake her head in disbelief.

‘How could he not have confessed by now?’
She mused.

She realized she needed to steer the conversation away from this dangerous territory. Takemichi was clearly curious about the rumors swirling around him, and although it wasn’t exactly a secret, Mu Xiang felt it would be disastrous for Takemichi to learn about them—especially if Baji hadn’t confessed yet.

If he found out that people were already assuming he was Baji’s mate, it might complicate things… or worse, it could ruin Baji’s chances entirely.

Most of the tribe already knew that Draken and Mikey were Takemichi’s mates. The rumors had started circulating after Tajiu and Kokonoi met Takemichi, and it had only fueled the speculation. Mu Xiang was anxious about how this would play out, but before Takemichi could press her further, Seishu unknowingly rescued her by interrupting.

“Michi the bath is already ready—”
Seishu announced—the bath in English, walking up to them.

Mu Xiang blinked in confusion at the unfamiliar word.

‘Bath?’
She sure she had never heard of such a thing.

It wasn’t until later that she would learn what it actually meant. Apparently, it was a process where one would cleanse their body with water. At first, she had been baffled—why would anyone need to do that if they weren’t dirty or smelly? But after spending more time with Takemichi and learning from Seishu, she started to understand.

Hours passed, and Mu Xiang found herself inside Takemichi’s cave, which was unlike any she had ever seen before.

It was clean, lacking the typical earthy smell most caves had. Instead, a pleasant, unfamiliar fragrance filled the space. The walls were adorned with things she had never seen in other caves, and the arrangement was both beautiful and unique.

‘So this is how Takemichi lives’
She thought, a mix of awe and admiration bubbling up inside her.

She couldn’t help but feel a little envious, though not in a malicious way. She truly admired how different and special Takemichi’s cave was from the others.

While exploring, she also discovered that Seishu and Baji’s caves had somehow merged into one—though it was clear to her that this had been done forcefully. Mu Xiang sweatdropped at the thought of the two males employing whatever tactics they had to make it happen.

Cold season was approaching, and preparations were well underway.

All the male orcs were busy hunting, while the older orcs and cubs stayed behind to tan animal skins and air-dry meat to prevent it from spoiling during the cold season. Meanwhile, the rare and delicate females, like Mu Xiang herself, didn’t have to lift a finger. They could simply stay home and enjoy the meals brought to them by the males.

Takemichi, however, was different—Well he was a male but still…

Although he wouldn’t have minded spending his days lying in bed and being fed by others—something he had never experienced back on Earth—he couldn’t shake the feeling of responsibility weighing on him.

He was concerned for the people around him, particularly Baji and Seishu, who were now living with him.

Unlike his relationships with Mikey and Draken, where their bonds had already been solidified, Takemichi’s connection with Baji and Seishu was still that of friends. But with the cold season nearing, he couldn’t bear the thought of leaving everything to them. They were already working hard, hunting day and night, and he didn’t want to add to their burden.

‘have to find a way to help them’
He thought.

Even if his contribution was small, Takemichi hoped he could lighten their load in some way.

Takemichi, feeling a bit shy, asked as he shifted in the new wooden chair Seishu had crafted just yesterday. Though it wasn’t perfect, it was sturdy enough to use.

“Xiang-chan, could you teach me how to tan animal skins?”

Mu Xiang hesitated for a moment, her gaze softening.

“I can, but why do you want to learn that?”
She asked, a bit puzzled.

For a brief moment, she considered saying that as a female, Takemichi didn’t need to trouble himself with such tasks.

Females were meant to stay home, cared for by others, their primary duty being to give birth and raise cubs. But then she quickly remembered—Takemichi wasn’t a female. He was male, and their customs didn’t quite apply to him.

Takemichi chuckled awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck.

He couldn’t very well admit that he wanted to learn to help alleviate some of the burden on Baji and Seishu. That felt a bit too corny to say aloud. Instead, he found a more neutral excuse.

“I’m just bored and thought it might be a useful skill to learn.”

“Alright, I’m bored too. I’ll go with you and show you how it’s done.”
Mu Xiang giggled, seeing right through him but deciding not to press.

The two gathered the animal skins and headed toward the river, with Seishu trailing closely behind.

He wasn’t just tagging along for the fun of it, either—he was there to ensure that nothing bad happened to either of them, especially Mu Xiang. She was a precious female, after all. But more than that, he had a deeper, unspoken reason. Takemichi wasn’t just any male to him.

He was Seishu’s most treasured, beloved male—the one he hoped would one day be his mate.

(And if that isn’t sweet… 🥰)

Tanning animal skins wasn’t an overly complicated process, and under Mu Xiang’s patient guidance, Takemichi quickly got the hang of it. The two worked side by side, chatting and laughing, their focus on the task at hand.

However, their presence didn’t go unnoticed.

The males nearby couldn’t help but stare, their curiosity and fascination barely concealed. It wasn’t every day they witnessed such a striking pair walking together.

Females like Mu Xiang rarely ventured out, and when they did, their male family members were always close by, protective and sometimes even possessive. It was a rare sight to see her strolling freely, especially without the constant hovering of a watchful male.

What made the scene even more remarkable was the presence of Takemichi.

At first glance, many had assumed he was female, given his delicate features and slight frame. But after watching him closely—perhaps too closely—over time, they realized he was, in fact, male.

That didn’t stop their eyes from lingering on him, though.

There was something about him, something magnetic and almost otherworldly, that drew their attention despite their better judgment. Even among the rugged, wild beauty of their world, Takemichi stood out. His appearance was soft, almost ethereal, but it was his presence that captivated them—like he was both part of this world and separate from it.

Takemichi’s uniqueness wasn’t just in his appearance, though that alone was enough to catch anyone’s eye.

There was a subtle grace in the way he moved, the kind of calm elegance that was both effortless and mesmerizing.

It wasn’t something the males were used to seeing, especially not in someone they had eventually realized was male. His beauty defied their expectations, and that, more than anything, was what held their attention.

Mu Xiang, too, was a sight to behold, her natural beauty something that had already turned heads in their village many times over.

But today, the combination of the two of them together—one female, one male—both equally captivating yet so different in their allure, was simply irresistible to those watching from afar.

And really, who could blame them?

Takemichi was breathtakingly beautiful, and the way he effortlessly moved and laughed only added to his charm.

Today was a particularly rare event—two stunning figures standing by the river, completely unaware of the attention they were drawing. For many of the young single males nearby, it was too much to resist.

A few of them worked up the courage to approach, hoping to strike up a conversation—mostly with Takemichi, of course. But none of them got far.

Unbeknownst to Takemichi, Seishu—who just stood under a tree not far from the two— had been keeping a close eye on everything, hiding what’s happening in the shadows.

The moment any male got too close, Seishu would intervene, quickly and quietly dealing with them before they could even get a word out. He never hesitated and was ruthlessly efficient, but he made sure to act discreetly enough that Takemichi wouldn’t notice.

Mu Xiang, however, had noticed Seishu’s antics long ago, but she chose to stay silent.

In fact, she was secretly grateful for Seishu’s interference. She didn’t particularly want to deal with the awkwardness of other males trying to seduce—flirt with Takemichi while they were working.

The three of them continued tanning the animal skins by the river, chatting and eating as the day wore on.

.â—  . â—  . â—  . â— . â—  . â—  . â—  . â— . â—  . â—  . â—  . â—

When they finished, Takemichi, still completely oblivious to Seishu’s protective actions, began walking back to his cave, with Seishu following closely behind in his usual silent manner. As they walked, Takemichi talked and laughed with Mu Xiang, his bright, carefree smile making Seishu’s heart race.

Those poor males who had tried to approach Takemichi earlier?

Seishu had beaten them all soundly—and without mercy.

‘Serves them right’
He thought.

(And honestly, who could disagree? 😔)

‘Michi belongs with me—to us’

(Nah…. I feel single guys—A. Mina😭)

By the time they arrived back at Takemichi’s cave, the sun was already beginning to set.

Standing at the entrance were two figures—one was unmistakably Baji, but the other was unfamiliar to Takemichi. He glanced at Seishu and Mu Xiang, hoping for some clue as to who the other male was, and from their expressions, it was clear they knew exactly who he was.

It didn’t take long for Takemichi to piece things together.

The second male was one of Mu Xiang’s mates, and he had come to take her back to their cave for the evening.
